With a total prize fund worth £20,000 the stakes were high for over 60 budding entrepreneurs who entered Flare, the University of Hertfordshire’s business challenge, which culminated in an awards ceremony, held on 28th April 2008.
The top ten made it through to the final where they battled it out to scoop a prize of a bespoke business package, enabling them to turn their business dreams into reality.
In a Dragon’s Den scenario held at Tower Bridge, contestants faced a panel of judges with the aim of winning one of the sector prizes. Nigel Culkin, Head of Enterprise and Entrepreneurial Development at the University said: “It’s obvious from the number and quality of entries that we have a large and growing community of aspiring entrepreneurs. It’s not only the winners who benefit. The feedback from such highly respected business people is invaluable to all our entrants as they commence on their entrepreneurial journey”.
Netcel sponsored the award for Most Visionary Business Idea and Tim Parfitt, Netcel’s MD, was delighted to award a package of web development services to Glenn Hitchman, currently studying for a Masters degree in Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, to help him promote ‘The Experience Centre’, a new concept in relaxation facilities.
Having formed Netcel, over 12 years ago, Tim said: “I am delighted to support this excellent initiative, knowing how hard it can be to develop a great idea into a viable and successful business from scratch and without any funding”.
