Embracing Sustainability: Netcel's Journey Towards a Greener Future

On Monday, April 22nd, we join the global community in honouring the 32nd Earth Day, a time to reflect on our planet’s wonders and our role in preserving its beauty. It’s a time to celebrate our commitment to environmental sustainability and a chance to share our journey towards a greener future.

We're passionate about making a positive impact through our business practices and client work. Our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) program is at the heart of this mission, driving us to minimise our carbon footprint and reduce waste across our operations.

Partnering with Earthly

Reversing climate change is one of the most important challenges we face today and we’re contributing by becoming a Climate Positive Team through our partnership with Earthly. Earthly connects us to high-quality nature-based solutions, working not only to balance our team’s footprint but also to protect biodiversity and the lives & livelihoods of those most impacted by climate change. We've contributed to impactful projects including the protection of the second-largest rainforest in Mai Ndombe, mangrove planting in Madagascar, and peatland protection in Indonesia.

Through our partnership with Earthly, we have removed 14,021.06 tonnes of carbon since 2023. That's equivalent to:

Committing to reduce our CO2 everyday

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond partnerships. We've implemented practical changes in our day-to-day operations, such as:

  • Transitioning to a cloud-first model with leading platforms like AWS and Azure, resulting in an impressive 80% reduction in our carbon footprint.
  • Embracing a hybrid working model has further slashed our emissions by an estimated 80%, demonstrating the power of remote work in reducing commuting-related pollution.
  • Our strategic shift from desktops to laptops has resulted in a significant 50% reduction in our carbon footprint, thanks to the lower energy consumption of laptops compared to desktops.

But we don't stop there. Our team actively practices sustainability through initiatives like:

  • Recycling, composting, reducing food waste and promoting energy efficiency.
  • Embracing sustainable learning and development practices, encouraging lifelong learning through platforms like LinkedIn Learning and Optimizely Academy.
  • Re-homing retired work laptops and other hardware in return for a donation to our company charity, Samaritans.
  • Following our ‘think before you print’ policy.
  • Using refillable bottles.
  • Turning down the heating (that’s what our Netcel hoodies are for!).
  • Exclusively using LED bulbs throughout our office and avoid unnecessary use of lights in vacant spaces such as meeting rooms.

Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, our goals are ambitious yet achievable. We're committed to achieving Net Zero status by 2026, embodying our dedication to a sustainable future. We are also in the process of launching an Electric Vehicle Scheme, and doubling our contributions to Earthly-supported projects.

At Netcel, we are committed to making a positive impact on our planet through our everyday efforts. Join us on this exciting journey towards a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.
